Pheu Thai Urges Election Commission to Clarify Issues Before Vote Recount and Re-election on 22 Feb to Build Public Confidence

The Pheu Thai Party is pressing the Election Commission (EC) to quickly clarify issues related to the 2026 election before the vote recount and re-election on 22 February. The party revealed that its secretary-general has instructed parliamentary candidates to rigorously verify vote results after the EC announced the official counts.

On 19 February 2026, Mr. Sukit Srichomkwan, spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party, addressed the upcoming vote recount and re-election on Sunday, 22 February, urging the Election Commission (EC) to clearly explain the facts to the public before proceeding. He said that society is raising questions about the recent election process on several points, including discrepancies in vote tallies at some polling stations and the use of QR codes and barcodes, which the public suspects may compromise the principle of secret ballots.

“Before conducting the vote recount or re-election, the EC should clearly explain all details, including the accuracy of numbers, verification methods, and data protection measures for voting. This is to ensure the public’s confidence that the entire process is transparent and respects voters’ rights.”

The Pheu Thai spokesperson emphasized that providing clear explanations in advance is essential, since allowing doubts to accumulate could undermine public trust in the democratic process overall. Furthermore, the party’s secretary-general has ordered Pheu Thai’s constituency parliamentary candidates to urgently review vote count data released gradually by the EC, compare it with photographs of the original tally sheets taken on election day, to confirm there are no discrepancies in the recorded data, and compile this information to present to the party for further action.

In closing, Mr. Sukit added that Pheu Thai will closely monitor the EC’s work and continuously communicate information to the public to ensure this election is conducted fairly, justly, and without suspicion.
