On 20 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, signed Prime Minister and Ministry of Interior Order No. 429/2569 dated 19 Feb 2026 GMT+7, temporarily banning the issuance of firearm carry permits (Por.12) to address the public safety crisis in public areas.
The order states that firearms have been continuously used to commit violent acts in public places, severely impacting lives and property and causing widespread fear among the public. To maintain public order and reduce crime, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior exercised authority under the Firearms Act B.E. 2496 (1953) to temporarily suspend the issuance of firearm carry permits.
This order will be in effect for a full year starting the day after its publication in the Royal Gazette. It represents the strictest firearm control measure in several years, aimed at preventing easy access to firearms in public spaces.
