Introducing Supachai Jaisamut, a long-serving member of the Bhumjaithai Party, former advisor to House Speaker Chai Chidchob—father of Newin—from his role as Secretary to the Minister of Justice, now widely rumored to be appointed as the next Minister of Justice.
On 20 Feb 2026 GMT+7, after the Bhumjaithai Party won the election as the leading party, news about the government formation and cabinet lineup began to emerge. One notable position is the Minister of Justice, where rumors spread that Mr. Supachai Jaisamut, former party-list MP of Bhumjaithai and former Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, currently serving as Secretary to the Minister of Justice (Police Lieutenant General Ruthaphon Naowarat) and political spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice, is expected to be appointed as Minister of Justice, replacing Police Lieutenant General Ruthaphon, who will be removed from the position.
Mr. Supachai Jaisamut was born on 27 September 1958, currently aged 67. He hails from Palian District, Trang Province, and is the son of Mr. Bamrung and Mrs. Jeha Jaisamut. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Ramkhamhaeng University and a Master's degree in Public Administration from the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).
Before entering politics, Supachai worked as a lawyer, gaining extensive expertise in legal matters. His first political attempt was running for a parliamentary seat in Trang Province under the Thai Rak Thai Party, but he was not elected. Later, he served as Secretary to the Minister of Interior and Deputy Spokesperson for the People's Power Party.
Subsequently, when the “Newin Friends Group” split from the People's Power Party, Supachai—then Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office under Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat’s government—decided to help establish the Bhumjaithai Party in 2008. He played a key role as one of the party’s first spokespersons and was often tasked with overseeing party regulations, election laws, and defending important legal cases for the Bhumjaithai Party.
He was also appointed advisor to House Speaker Chai Chidchob, father of Newin Chidchob, and served as Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office during Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s administration.
In 2011, Supachai was elected as a party-list MP for Bhumjaithai and selected as deputy party secretary. He was re-elected as a party-list MP in 2019 and in 2020 was chosen as the party registrar for Bhumjaithai.
In 2023, he was appointed advisor to Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s government. Under Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s administration, he was appointed Assistant Minister attached to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation under Minister Supamas Isarapakdi. Later, in Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s government, he was appointed Secretary to the Minister of Justice (Police Lieutenant General Ruthaphon Naowarat) on 7 October 2025 GMT+7.
Most recently, rumors have circulated that in the second Anutin cabinet, Supachai is expected to be entrusted with the position of Minister of Justice.
