On 26 Feb 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that after the extraordinary session of the National Assembly on 26 Feb 2026 GMT+7, the urgent agenda under close watch was the consideration of approval for nominees to hold positions. Two Election Commissioners were nominated to fill vacancies as follows. Jirut Visalchit. Former Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, and Monthon Sudprasert. Former Director-General of the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning and former Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, replacing Lertwiroj Kowatthana and Thitikhet Nuchanat, whose terms have expired.

Monthon lost the Election Commissioner seat.

After the closed meeting, the Senate voted by secret ballot to approve Jirut as Election Commissioner with 144 votes in favor, 1 against, and 26 abstentions, exceeding half of the total senators or 100 votes, thus granting Jirut Senate approval to hold the position.

Meanwhile, Monthon received 9 votes in favor, 102 against, 57 abstentions, and 1 no vote, falling short of the required majority of 100 votes, resulting in Monthon not being elected as an Election Commissioner.
