Mallika Announces Independent Candidacy for 2026 Bangkok Governor Election

Mallika Boonmittrakul Mahasuk announced on her show her candidacy as an independent in the 2026 Bangkok governor election, shortly after celebrating her 53rd birthday.

On 23 February 2026, reporters reported that Ms. Mallika Boonmittrakul Mahasuk a former party-list Member of Parliament from the Democrat Party, revealed during her online program Mallika SHOW by Naewna Online that she will run for the position of Governor of Bangkok in the 2026 election.

She also spoke about park policies, stating that public parks should not be fenced off but open for public use. If fences are necessary, they should not be very high or locked. If concerns about safety arise, she suggested increasing lighting and hiring security guards to address issues directly. Regarding district office practices, she recommended ending the requirement to submit both sides of ID cards in paper form and instead moving to online procedures for public convenience.

At the same time, the program included a rendition of Happy Birthday to celebrate Mallika's 53rd birthday on 22 February. During the show, a question was raised asking if she was truly running for Bangkok governor. She confirmed that it was true and that she would run as an independent candidate, not affiliated with any political party.

Reporters added that if current Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt completes his term, the next election is expected to take place on 5 July 2026.
