Palang Pracharath Faces Issues as Sonthiya Files Ethics Complaint with EC over Unfair Candidate Support

Sonthiya filed a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) to investigate the ethics of Palang Pracharath party executives over unfair support for parliamentary candidates, after some candidates did not receive campaign expense assistance.

On 24 February 2026, Mr. Sonthiya Sawasdee submitted a letter to the Election Commission (EC) requesting an ethics investigation into the party leader and executive committee of Palang Pracharath concerning their support for candidates in the recent parliamentary election.

Mr. Sonthiya stated that although the party nominated parliamentary candidates, some were not provided with financial or campaign support. These candidates had submitted required application documents, including bank account copies as stipulated by the party, yet did not receive even the 10,000 baht registration fee support. He believes this may constitute discrimination, dishonesty, and a lack of transparency.

He called on the EC to investigate whether Palang Pracharath provided financial support exclusively to certain individuals or groups in the recent election and, if reports that the party received funds from major sponsors are true, how those funds were allocated or used.

Additionally, he requested the EC examine the party's income and expenditure records to determine if any funds were transferred to specific candidates and whether this complied with EC regulations, which set a campaign spending ceiling of 1.9 million baht per candidate from the date the House was dissolved until the election on 8 February 2026.

Mr. Sonthiya said that if these allegations are true, such actions could violate the ethics of the party leader and executive committee, who are required to act honestly, fairly, and without discrimination. He urged the EC to strictly enforce party executive ethics regulations.

He also plans to submit a letter urging the EC to certify the parliamentary election results promptly, following the 2023 election precedent, noting that complaints like those involving barcode or QR code issues could be addressed after certification within the legal timeframe to avoid delays in government formation.

In another matter, Mr. Sonthiya urged the EC to take strict legal action against election law violators, warning that neglect or failure to perform duties could constitute a criminal offense under Section 157 of the Penal Code.

Regarding the controversy over the barcode or QR code system in the election process, Mr. Sonthiya said it is the court's authority to consider. Currently, no court ruling has been made on these issues.

Mr. Sonthiya affirmed that this complaint aims to ensure fairness for candidates and maintain transparency in the party's management in accordance with the laws and ethics established by the EC.
