Nantana doubts Phiphat's urgency to establish a new government before Songkran, noting it could indicate interference with the Election Commission's work. She suggests using the full two months to examine the integrity and fairness of the election thoroughly, to ensure a worthwhile process and avoid leaving unresolved issues that concern society.
On 24 Feb 2026 GMT+7 at the parliament, Senator Nantana Nantawarophat commented on the Election Commission's plan to certify the House of Representatives election results by the end of February. She said the EC has yet to clarify public doubts, especially regarding the actual number of voters and ongoing issues with the voting process, including disputed ballots without clear conclusions. Therefore, if the EC rushes to certify the election, it is believed to conflict with the public's sentiments.
When asked about Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, a leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, stating that the new government must be formed before Songkran, Nantana said that such a stance could be seen as interfering with the EC's work. She said the government formation process should wait for the EC to fully verify and clarify all election issues before certifying the results. Hastening certification could be perceived as following orders and lacking independence.
"The EC should promptly clarify and communicate with the public on all doubts regarding the election process. It should also wait for the Ombudsman's review of petitions related to the election, which are being considered for referral to the Constitutional Court. On 27 Feb, the EC is also expected to provide explanations. Thus, if doubts remain but the EC rushes to certify, it may appear to favor a particular political party. The EC has 60 days from the election day to verify results before certification, so it should use this time fully to dispel doubts and avoid problems. Rushing certification means endorsing the legitimacy of MPs despite ongoing concerns under investigation." Senator Nantana said.
