"Ekarat" apologizes for using strong language, opposes setting up the People's Party Equality Committee, and affirms his stance as a lawyer that no one should be judged guilty before a court ruling. He points out that the party must hold standards higher than usual but must not abandon principles, fearing it could become a "judgmental society" and lose balance.,
On 24 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Ekarat Udomamnuay, prospective Bangkok MP for the People's Party, spoke about his Facebook post opposing the establishment of the People's Party Equality Committee. He apologized for using language that upset many and accepted the criticism. However, as a lawyer specializing in human rights, he said he must affirm this principle. Regarding the candidate from Maha Sarakham, that can be debated, but on principle, if he does not fight for this, he would lack strength and legitimacy when defending cases in court.
"Courts never grant bail to defendants or accused persons in criminal cases by pre-judging them. Therefore, I must uphold this principle with no other intent; we must truly believe in it. Regarding political parties needing higher standards, I accept and strive to achieve that. Yet at the same time, I must emphasize that if we become a judgmental society, it will not end well," he said. Mr. Ekarat stated,
He added that this aligns with the constitutional framework, which everyone agrees that no one should be judged before a final court verdict. Politically, of course, politicians must be responsible and hold standards higher than ordinary citizens, which is undeniable. At the same time, some members of other parties have faced harassment. Therefore, this principle must also exist to balance and provide checks within the system.
