Secretary Ting Prepares to Elevate Discussions After Ekkarat Opposes Lawyer Jam

"Sarayut Jailek" supports establishing an equality working group, emphasizing the need to listen to diverse viewpoints after "Ekkarat" posted opposition to "Lawyer Jam Sasinan." The plan is to elevate discussions from a loose group to an official mechanism for genuine work.

On 24 February 2026, Mr. Sarayut Jailek, secretary-general of the People's Party, commented on the case where Ms. Sasinan Thamnithinan, MP-elect for Bangkok from the People's Party, and other party members formed an equality working group, which some members like Mr. Ekkarat Udom-amnuay, MP-elect for Bangkok, opposed via Facebook. He said the formation of the working group is positive for discussing gender equality and related issues, which they already support. He wants serious work to occur. With serious work, it is necessary to listen to opinions from all members and sectors, including MPs, provincial networks, and various groups, to set standards. It must be acknowledged that current standards are unclear, and discretionary decisions lack consistency because clear standards have not yet been established. Therefore, if the working group seriously addresses this and considers comprehensive views from all sectors to create decision-making standards, it is a good thing. He supports this and believes that differing opinions can be harmonized through discussion to reach common standards.

When asked whether party executives need to discuss or call for mutual understanding, Mr. Sarayut said discussions have taken place. At least initially, the executives will officially appoint this working group. So far, it has not been formally established because it was just a loose gathering. However, after recent events, talks have occurred, and he understands it will be formalized. They are waiting to see who will be part of this group, and the executives will officially appoint it to enable real work to happen.
