The Army spokesperson declared the incident unacceptable and ordered readiness to respond after Cambodia fired a 40mm grenade launcher into Sisaket province, dismissing Cambodia's claim of lacking military discipline as invalid.
On 25 February 2026, Major General Winthai Suwaree, Army spokesperson, addressed the tense situation along the Thai-Cambodian border following a forest fire that escalated to the firing of a 40mm grenade launcher into Sisaket province yesterday. He confirmed continuous coordination among local units but noted that due to the long border and many subunits, repeated incidents occur, with Cambodia often blaming subunit discipline issues.
Major General Winthai stated that the Thai side strictly enforces discipline, while Cambodia repeatedly causes incidents. Upon review, Cambodia's excuse of poor discipline is unacceptable and may indicate intentional acts against Thai soldiers. Local units are authorized to exercise self-defense and respond promptly according to established measures. Although stray grenades have not harmed personnel, Thailand considers the situation intolerable amid the ceasefire agreement.
Regarding long-term solutions, the Army spokesperson revealed that all conflict information will be compiled and brought to discussions at the Regional Border Committee (RBC) level to ensure both sides seriously uphold rules and regulations. He also urged frontline troops to exercise utmost patience and caution given the area's high sensitivity.
Concerning remarks by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkaew responding to Cambodia at the United Nations Human Rights Council, Major General Winthai believes these statements are unlikely to be directly related to the border clashes, as military operations follow local contingency plans. Current intelligence indicates Cambodia has not deployed large-scale forces but only conducted fence line patrols after forest fires cleared the area. He affirmed that Thailand's command system is effective and fully prepared to safeguard sovereignty.
