Sand-Chayika, former advisor to the Foreign Minister, has challenged political institutions following a surge in sexual abuse cases involving politicians, proposing a restoration of justice for the victims.
On 25 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Chayika Wongnapajan, former advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke out regarding the scandal of politicians involved in sexual abuse cases. She expressed disappointment that society and political parties often invoke the principle of "Presumed Innocence" to shield the accused, thereby neglecting issues of gender inequality and the dangers posed by "Date Rape Drugs" that strip women of their right to make decisions.
Ms. Chayika emphasized that, as political parties select MPs for legislative power, they should prioritize the safety and rights of victims over allowing individuals with serious allegations to enter elections. She stressed that rape is not merely a sexual matter but an abuse of power over the vulnerable. She questioned whether political institutions should allow victims to seek justice before deciding to protect their own members.
Furthermore, she proposed that all political parties collaborate to address structural issues by redefining "Affirmative Consent" in line with OECD countries such as Sweden and Germany, where consent must be clearly expressed through words or positive actions.
"Silence, lack of resistance, or not fighting back does not constitute consent if the person is drunk, unconscious, drugged, or pressured into fear," Ms. Chayika stated.
As a mother of a daughter entering adolescence, Ms. Chayika admitted she feels pain every time victims are labeled as "consenting" despite being in circumstances that hinder decision-making. She called on political parties to stop ignoring these issues and to establish serious new standards to protect human rights and equality in Thai society in a tangible way.
