Anutin Summons Army Chief to Discuss Border Preparedness, Emphasizes Full Equipment Readiness Despite Caretaker Government

The Prime Minister summoned the Army Chief to discuss border readiness and to prepare budgets in case of emergencies, emphasizing that any weapons used must be replenished fully and be ready for immediate use.

On 26 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul revealed after summoning Army Chief General Chaiphruek Duangpraphat to meet at the Thai Khu Fah Building to discuss the situation and preparedness across the country's border areas.

Anutin inquired about troop readiness and the overall situation across all border districts, not focusing solely on the Cambodia border. He confirmed there are currently no areas of concern but emphasized the need to assess situations in advance to prepare a reserve budget—though only a small amount remains—to be ready for emergencies during the caretaker government period.

Regarding procurement or equipment preparation, Anutin stressed that if there are deficiencies, the military can use its existing regular budget to promptly fill the gaps and ensure readiness. When asked about the suitability of holding the Defence Minister position concurrently, Anutin avoided answering directly, instead tasting a snack and jokingly saying “less sweet” before leaving the interview.
