Cobra Gold 2026 Today: Thailand, U.S., South Korea, and Singapore Conduct Amphibious Operations Exercise

Cobra Gold 2026 sees Thailand, the U.S., South Korea, and Singapore conducting amphibious operations to build combat readiness and expand joint training capabilities. The royal pet dog also participates in military exercises.

On 26 February 2026 at 10:00 a.m., Vice Admiral Suchart Thamphitakwech, Deputy Commander of the Royal Thai Navy, along with Major General William J. Prendergast IV, Commander of the 4th Infantry Division, California National Guard, and commanders from participating countries—the United States, Republic of Korea, and Republic of Singapore—inspected the amphibious operations exercise during the Cobra Gold 2026 joint/multinational training at Naval Training Area No. 15, Hat Yao, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province.

The amphibious operation's main mission is to seize and establish control over the enemy's beachhead using naval forces and landing troops, supported by air power. It begins with naval artillery bombardment of the beachhead, closely supported by aircraft to suppress enemy firepower. Following that, landing forces secure the beachhead and advance into enemy territory, establishing a secure foothold for combat forces. This year, personnel from the Thai military, U.S. military, South Korean military, and Singaporean military are participating.

The U.S. military brought the large amphibious assault ship USS ASHLAND and attack helicopters from the U.S. Army, along with various military equipment, to join the exercises alongside Thai forces. The Royal Thai Navy contributed the vessels HTMS Chang, HTMS Wang Nai, and HTMS Thong Lang, along with landing forces (Marines), amphibious vehicles, and transport helicopters. The Republic of Korea Navy brought the ROKS No Jeok Bong (LSTII-689) and KAAV amphibious assault vehicles. The Republic of Singapore Navy joined with the landing ship RSS Endeavour.

This amphibious operations exercise aims to enhance combat readiness and expand joint training capabilities more comprehensively. It is a crucial step in developing national defense potential and demonstrating military strength in joint allied operations. The exercise builds confidence in the Thai military’s readiness across all dimensions and strengthens friendly relations and military cooperation, which underpin ongoing national and regional security.
