Prime Minister Anutin has instructed the military to take full care of the soldier who lost a leg after stepping on a landmine, stating it is the military's duty. He called for adjustments to the mine clearance approach to ensure safety and emphasized that the government fully supports these efforts.
At 14:25 on 27 Feb 2026 at Air Base 6, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul spoke about the soldier losing a leg after stepping on a landmine at the Erawan base in Surin Province earlier that morning. He said he had received the report and instructed the military to provide full care, as the operation was at the frontline. He expressed his sorrow and urged utmost caution. Preliminary details revealed heavy rain in the area had caused soil erosion, exposing the landmines still present in the reclaimed territory. Therefore, urgent clearance is required to ensure the safety of personnel.
When asked whether changes to the mine clearance method for safety were needed, Anutin said that question should be directed to the military, but he fully supports any efforts to improve safety, security, and operational efficiency for the soldiers.
When further asked about the military’s statement that the landmines were old, Anutin responded that this also should be asked of the military. He noted that he has received reports and stressed the importance of caring for the troops and the welfare of the injured from incidents that are undesired.
