Anutin to Open 2026 MotoGP, Worlds First Race, Boosting Thailand as a Motorsport Hub

Prime Minister Anutin is set to open the "PT Grand Prix of Thailand 2026" at Chang International Circuit, Buriram Province, on 1 March, aiming to distribute income to attractive tourist cities.

On 27 February 2026, reporters reported that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul will travel to preside over the opening ceremony and award presentation of the 2026 MotoGP World Championship race, the "PT Grand Prix of Thailand 2026," on Sunday, 1 March 2026, at Buriram International Circuit, Buriram Province.

This year's race is especially notable as Thailand has been honored to host the "season opener" (first race) for the second consecutive year and marks the seventh year Thailand has held the event. Activities run from 27 February to 1 March 2026. Previously, on 21-22 February, Thailand also hosted the official pre-season test for the 2026 season.

The government views hosting such a world-class event as a key driver to advancing Thailand’s strategy to become the region’s full-fledged "Motorsport Hub." It attracts motorsport fans worldwide, a high-spending tourist segment that travels in large groups and often continues to visit other provinces, clearly spreading income to local communities and regions.

According to the schedule, the Prime Minister will visit various pavilions at the event, watch Thai cultural performances to showcase the country’s soft power to the world, then attend the race and present awards to the winners. However, the schedule may be adjusted as appropriate.
