The government warns the public from 3 to 6 March to prepare for severe summer storms, cautioning about strong gusts, hail, heavy rain, and lightning. Farmers are advised to reinforce fruit trees to prevent damage.
On 2 March 2026, Ms. Airin Panrit, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that during the summer season each year, severe storms often occur in various areas, bringing thunderstorms, strong winds, and sometimes hail, causing damage to life, property, and agricultural produce. The government is concerned for the public. Therefore, the government issues a warning to the public. They should monitor and prepare to cope with the summer storms by continuously following official updates from government agencies to be ready. This is to reduce losses. To life and property.
Ms. Airin said that from 3 to 6 March, upper Thailand will experience summer storms, beginning with the Northeast region first, followed by the East, Central region, and Bangkok.Including the metropolitan area and the North. These areas will be affected subsequently, with storms characterized by thunderstorms, strong gusts, hail, and heavy rain in some places, along with possible lightning. Afterwards, temperatures will cool down as a high-pressure area or cold air mass from China moves to cover the Northeast and the South China Sea. This will cause southerly and southeasterly winds to cover the Northeast, Central, East regions, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with westerly wind currents passing over the North and Northeast. During this time, upper Thailand will be hot. Then, from 7 to 8 March, the heat will subside.Rainfall will decrease but scattered thunderstorms may still occur in some areas. This is because the cold air mass or high-pressure area continues to cover upper Thailand, combined with upper-level westerly winds moving over the area.
For the South, from 2 to 4 March, rainfall will decrease due to northwesterly winds covering the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand. Wave strength in the Andaman Sea will weaken, with waves about 1 meter high, and over 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms. From 5 to 8 March, rainfall will increase with heavy rain possible in some places, due to strengthening east and southeast winds covering the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea. Wave strength in these seas will also increase, especially in the lower Gulf of Thailand.Sea waves will be about 1-2 meters high.In areas with thunderstorms, waves will exceed 2 meters.
“From 3 to 6 March, residents in upper Thailand are urged to be cautious of dangers from thunderstorms, strong gusts, hail, and lightning. Avoid open areas, large trees, and unstable billboards, and refrain from traveling through storm-affected zones during this period. Farmers should reinforce fruit trees and prepare to prevent damage to crops and livestock. Also, take care of health during these changing weather conditions,” Ms. Airin advised.
