On 2 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the People's Party (PP) issued a statement regarding the escalating tensions in the Middle East, stating that the government must pursue three missions to protect and defend the highest interests of Thailand and its people.
Over the past two days, the People's Party has closely monitored the increasingly severe tensions in the Middle East with great concern. The situation not only affects the conflicting parties but also impacts the safety of citizens in several countries, including Thai nationals, the stability of the global economy, and the long-term peace of the international community as a whole.
The People's Party believes the fundamental principle for coexistence in the global community is respect for international rules. We hope all parties will cease actions that escalate violence, prioritize civilian safety, and support peaceful dispute resolution based on international law.
To protect and defend the highest interests of Thailand and its people both now and in the future, the People's Party supports the Thai government in undertaking three critical actions.
1. Prioritize protecting the lives and welfare of Thai citizens. In crisis situations, the most urgent task is to safeguard the lives and safety of Thai people.
The People's Party supports the government using all diplomatic mechanisms to closely monitor the situation, provide care and protection, and systematically prepare evacuation plans for Thais in risky areas. It also calls for cooperation with negotiating countries and commercial airlines to prepare emergency travel routes, including arranging charter flights via domestic airlines and the military for emergency readiness. Furthermore, the government should communicate accurate, transparent, and up-to-date information regarding flight routes, maritime navigation, and risk areas, while advising citizens planning to travel to the region to consider postponing their trips until the situation stabilizes.
2. Prepare measures to mitigate economic impacts on Thailand. Tensions in the Middle East inevitably affect global economic stability and energy prices, which will directly impact the livelihoods of Thai people through rising living costs, transportation expenses, and domestic production costs.
The People's Party supports the government in developing comprehensive contingency plans, including measures to address volatility in oil and natural gas prices—especially advance assistance for vulnerable groups—strategic energy reserves management, and proactive communication to reduce market panic. It also emphasizes monitoring impacts on exports, imports, and supply chains in relevant industries.[This part is a fragment continuing the previous sentence about supply chains in various industries.]Allocate budgets to assist businesses and citizens in coping with immediate challenges and in strengthening resilience against external factors over the long term.
3. Collaborate to restore the global order to ensure Thailand’s security and the safety of its people in the future. Amid high geopolitical tensions and uncertainty, commitment to a global order based on international rules, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states equally under the United Nations Charter, will serve as a vital shield protecting Thailand’s security and its people’s safety in the future.
The People's Party believes Thailand must take a proactive role in regional and international arenas by coordinating cooperation with ASEAN member states and other middle powers to jointly call for de-escalation and promote ceasefire agreements. It also supports negotiation mechanisms at bilateral and multilateral levels under international law frameworks to restore a rules-based international order, thereby mitigating uncertainties and violence that could adversely affect Thai citizens in the future.
The People's Party hopes the government will fully utilize both domestic and international measures to assist Thai citizens and alleviate immediate impacts, as well as prepare to build confidence among the public and private sectors over the long term amid significantly increased geopolitical volatility and risks.
