Prime Minister Leads NSC Meeting to Assess Middle East Conflict Impact and Plans for Thai Citizens

Prime Minister Anutin chaired a National Security Council meeting to address the Middle East conflict, assess the oil situation, and plan assistance for Thai nationals alongside economic impact response measures.

On 2 March 2026 at 10:15 AM, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the 1/2026 National Security Council (NSC) meeting to evaluate the conflict situation in the Middle East. Attendees included Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Akniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Foreign Minister Sihasak Puangketkaew, and key security agencies. Military leaders present were Supreme Commander General Ukrit Boontanon, Army Commander General Pana Klaewplodtuk, Navy Commander Admiral Phairoj Fuangchan, Royal Thai Police Commissioner General Kittirat Phanphet, Army Chief of Staff General Chaipruk Duangprapat, Air Force Chief of Staff Air Chief Marshal Anurak Romanarak, National Intelligence Agency Director Thanat Suwannanon, NSC Secretary-General Chatchai Bangchuad, and Deputy Secretary-General Sorapong Sriyanong, among others.

Prior to the meeting, the Prime Minister summoned relevant agencies to provide updates on the Middle East situation at the Thai Khu Fa building.

The agenda includes assessing export and import conditions, particularly oil, to prepare for a potential closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Such a closure would disrupt shipping routes and drive up oil prices. Thailand must therefore suspend oil exports, as domestic reserves currently last only about 60 days. Additionally, plans to evacuate Thai nationals from the Middle East will be reviewed, along with enhanced security measures for individuals, key sites, and government offices linked to the conflict countries.

At 1:30 PM, the Prime Minister will chair another meeting at Phakdi Bodin Building, Government House, to further evaluate the ongoing combat situation in the Middle East.
