Nattapong, joined by a former People's Party MP, is actively collaborating with 'Orange Volunteers' to find solutions to Ayutthaya's flooding issues, accelerating efforts to establish standard evacuation centers and drainage canals to the sea to prevent repeated flooding.
On 3 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People's Party, traveled to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province with a former People's Party MP candidate from the area to participate in a community discussion following the 2026 general election.
Mr. Nattapong said he came to restore hope and listen to everyone’s opinions, aiming to learn lessons for the People's Party after the recent election. He presented feedback from members and the public to review experiences and set post-election strategies. The party’s executive committee has acknowledged all comments and is ready to continue grassroots work in the future.
In Bang Ban district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, which suffers from chronic flooding, the People's Party has a local representative, Mr. Tawiwong Totawiwong, a former MP candidate for Ayutthaya’s first district, who has been advocating on this issue as a member of parliament for the past two years.
Mr. Tawiwong proposed policies and approaches to address the persistent flooding in Bang Ban, Ayutthaya, which the People's Party will continue to promote. In the short term, he emphasized the need to monitor and develop flood response plans for the annual year-end flooding, with preparations starting early in the year to effectively alleviate public hardship.
The People's Party proposed immediate and long-term measures to the government. In the short term, they called for the urgent creation of standard evacuation centers in multifunctional village buildings equipped with bathrooms, showers, emergency beds, storage for livelihood equipment, first aid kits, and solar panels, so residents won’t have to stay in roadside tents. They also urged local administrative organizations to regularly dredge canals to improve secondary water flow and support farmers, with continuous government budget support.
Regarding compensation, the party suggested monthly payments from the onset of flooding without waiting for water to recede, using satellite technology to verify actual damage, and compensating farmland and agricultural areas used as flood basins. They also proposed establishing a housing fund for residents outside flood barriers or riverbanks to elevate homes and improve necessary infrastructure.
For the long term, the People's Party recommended that the government study and promote the Chainat–Pasak–Gulf of Thailand canal project, starting from the lower Pasak area to the Gulf, to create a drainage route to the sea. They also plan to strategize land acquisition and evaluate the efficiency of drainage canals, alongside improving inflow and outflow systems such as remote-controlled floodgates and adjustable water pipes, to flexibly manage water during floods and planting seasons. Additionally, they proposed amending the 2018 Water Resources Act to increase the authority of the National Water Resources Office to oversee related agencies cohesively and manage crises promptly.
Moreover, Mr. Nattapong visited Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon Worawihan to participate in the candlelight procession commemorating Magha Puja Day.
