Energy Ministry Secretary-General Hints at Energy Saving Campaign Amid Rising Global Market Prices

The Energy Ministry Secretary-General revealed that the Prime Minister has already had an initial phone discussion with Energy Minister Atthapol. He emphasized fixing diesel prices for 15 days before reassessing the situation. He also hinted at readiness to launch an energy-saving campaign amid rising global market prices.

At 11:45 a.m. on 4 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy, spoke about rumors that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul would summon Energy Minister Atthapol Rerkpiboon to discuss managing the oil situation amid Middle East conflicts on the same day (4 Mar). He said he knew that the Prime Minister had already had a preliminary phone discussion with Atthapol, during which the Prime Minister emphasized fixing diesel prices at no more than 30 baht per liter for 15 days. Afterwards, the situation would be reassessed, but it is unlikely retail prices will rise immediately after the 15 days expire.

Mr. Prasert said that currently, the government has no additional measures but is closely monitoring the situation. He is coordinating with the Ministry of Commerce to manage product prices, especially costs related to fuel prices. Further discussions among relevant agencies will continue periodically. Additionally, the Ministry of Energy plans to promote further energy-saving campaigns, as public participation is important amid rising global energy prices at this time. Examples include turning off unnecessary lights and setting air conditioners to 26 degrees Celsius.
