Monporn Denies Deal for First Deputy Speaker Seat, Affirms Pheu Thai Has Not Discussed Cabinet Positions

Monporn denies rumors about being appointed first deputy speaker of the parliament. She confirms that Pheu Thai has not yet discussed ministerial or legislative positions and asserts her readiness to undertake any duties assigned by the party.

On 4 March 2026 GMT+7, Monporn Charoensri, Pheu Thai MP for Nakhon Phanom District 2, went to receive her certificate as a member of the House of Representatives. She spoke about rumors that the party intended to appoint her as the first deputy speaker of the parliament due to her extensive experience as a former government whip. Monporn admitted being surprised by these rumors and confirmed that no discussions have taken place within the party regarding the allocation of any positions, whether executive or legislative.

Monporn stated that this week Pheu Thai will hold a small meeting in a workshop format to thoroughly review the election results, as the number of MPs won was far below the party’s target. They need to analyze which campaign policies failed to meet public expectations and acknowledge the reality that during the two years the party was in government, it may not have effectively addressed the people's problems, as reflected in the vote count. Therefore, the party must adjust its strategy and develop a new plan to better align with public priorities.

Regarding the issue of forming a coalition government with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul or allocating ministerial quotas as the third-largest party, Monporn said these decisions rest with the party's executive committee, and they have not yet reached that stage. Similarly, for Yotsanan Wongsawat, the party's prime ministerial candidate whose name appears in the list for Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, no discussions have taken place. As an MP and former minister, Monporn affirmed she is fully prepared to perform any duties assigned by the party to solve problems for the people.
