The Prime Minister summoned the Finance Minister and Commerce Permanent Secretary to discuss the energy situation, assess plans for managing the oil crisis, and stressed the need to oversee product prices to prevent additional hardship for the public.
On 4 March 2026 at Government House, following a meeting with Sean K. O'Neil, the U.S. Ambassador to Thailand, who left the Thai Khu Fah building, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul urgently called Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aekniti Nitithanprapas, along with Wuttikrai Leewiraphan, Permanent Secretary of Commerce and chairman of the PTT board, for an immediate discussion.
The discussion focused on reporting the impacts of Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil transit route, as well as measures to prevent opportunistic price increases on consumer goods that might rise due to higher energy costs, aiming to reduce the effect on the public’s cost of living.
Additionally, the Prime Minister assigned Deputy Prime Minister Aekniti Nitithanprapas to chair the second 2026 meeting assessing the Middle East conflict situation at Phakdi Bodin Building to closely monitor developments and plan comprehensive responses amid escalating tensions in the region.
