Navy Commander Prepares Secondary Plan to Evacuate Thais from Iran by Sea if Airspace Closes Due to Severe Situation

The Navy Commander has prepared a secondary plan to evacuate Thais in Iran by sea if the situation escalates and airspace is closed.

On 5 March 2026, Admiral Phairoj Fuangchan, Commander of the Royal Thai Navy, spoke about preparations to assist Thais in the Middle East, especially in Iran. He said that for evacuating citizens back to Thailand, initially the Air Force will be the main agency handling the operation in line with government policy.

Meanwhile, the Navy has prepared to assist Thais in the Middle East, particularly in Iran, in case of severe adverse conditions that prevent evacuation by air. They have made contingency plans to use ships to move people, preparing a backup plan in case of a worst-case scenario such as airspace closure that would make air evacuation impossible. The Navy's "Plan Two" involves using ships to evacuate Thais from the area.

At the same time, the Navy Commander also addressed the Defense Minister's policy directing all military branches to conserve energy. The Navy has immediately implemented this policy by encouraging work-from-home where possible and postponing any non-essential activities.

Furthermore, if travel is necessary, it should be conducted via carpooling to reduce energy use. Orders have been issued to all Navy units, and it is believed these measures will effectively support the Defense Minister's energy conservation policy.
