
“Sabida” advances the Roadshow for the “Royal Thai Traditional Costume” to raise global awareness, launching in the Netherlands, Japan, and France ahead of UNESCO’s consideration to register it as World Heritage at the end of 2026 GMT+7.,
On 6 March 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Sabida Thaiset, Minister of Culture, chaired the progress meeting of the project promoting and publicizing Thai traditional costumes: the heritage of Thai textile wisdom and craftsmanship on the international stage. The first Roadshow activity to promote the Royal Thai Traditional Costume took place in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with Mr. Prasop Riangngern, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, and representatives from related agencies attending.Both government and private sectorsparticipated, including Plan B Media Public Company Limited, along with expert advisors such as Mr. Phot Hanphon, Assistant Professor Dr. Anucha Teerakanon, Mrs. Sarinda Jamraman, Mr. Thanarat Thanasetthakarn, Mr. Wicharawich Akrasantisuk, Mrs. Piyawora Thekhara Netnoi, and Ms. Panatcha Thaiset. Partner agencies involved were the Public Relations Department, the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles, the Thai Handicraft Promotion Institute (Public Organization), and Srinakharinwirot University, collaborating to elevate Thai heritage on the global stage at the Wisit Cultural Building, Ministry of Culture.
The first Kick-off event was held in the Netherlands. It is a great honor that Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya will preside over the opening and deliver a special lecture titled “The Evolution of Thai Costumes and Thai Textiles” on 9 April 2026 GMT+7.
Ms. Sabida emphasized that this activity is to raise awareness internationally, highlighting that the Royal Thai Traditional Costume is a cultural heritage of Thailand and to prepare for UNESCO’s consideration to register the costume as World Heritage by the end of 2026 GMT+7. She also added that the working group plans to expand awareness of the Royal Thai Traditional Costume throughout ASEAN countries.
