Tawee Acknowledges Bhumjaithais Approach to Join Government, Awaits Party Consensus

Tawee defers on joining government, says waiting for party consensus; acknowledges Bhumjaithai's courting, denies any grudge over 'Khao Kradong' case.

On 6 March 2026, Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, leader of the Prachachat Party, reported for duty as an MP and addressed rumors that Bhumjaithai Party had invited him to join the government coalition. He confirmed that coordination had occurred via the party secretary. However, as a smaller party, Prachachat must await an official party resolution before acting. Initially, the party sees no principle violation in joining the government and is ready to work if officially invited.

Regarding past conflicts, specifically Pol. Col. Tawee’s investigations into alleged collusion involving provincial chiefs and the Khao Kradong land case linked to Bhumjaithai leaders, he affirmed there are no personal issues; all actions were in line with his official duties at the time. On the prime ministerial vote, he noted it is an MP's constitutional right under Article 124, immune to external influence. He added that past collaborations naturally foster familiarity, but if any wrongdoing or interference with justice occurs, he and the party cannot accept it.

Pol. Col. Tawee also offered an insightful view that under the current constitution, "the opposition’s role is more important than the government’s" because MPs holding just one-tenth of the votes can file ethics complaints that might lead to the prime minister’s removal, a power stronger than a no-confidence debate. Nonetheless, Prachachat Party’s primary position remains focused on anti-corruption efforts, as promised during their campaign.
