Deputy Spokesperson of Foreign Ministry Reveals First Thai Evacuation Flight from Iran on 7 March

The Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that 125 Thais in Iran have registered to return, with the first flight on 7 March carrying 68 people. On 6 March 2026, Mr. Panidol Patchimsawat, Acting Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a press briefing at the Center for Management and Monitoring of the Conflict Situation in the Middle East. He stated that the situation remains volatile as Israel, the United States, and Iran continue attacking each other with new waves of attacks emerging. The conflict has expanded to neighboring countries beyond Lebanon, which has issued clarifications. Azerbaijan has also been hit by airstrikes causing civilian injuries and infrastructure damage. Regarding current airspace closures, countries still closing their skies include the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Israel, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Jordan continue to keep their airspace open. So far, there have been no reports of Thais injured or deceased. As for assistance to Thais in the area, the number of registered Thais in Iran has increased from 117 to 125. They are divided into two groups planning to exit by land: the first group of 69 will depart on 7 March, and the second group of 56 on 10 March. The first group of evacuees is scheduled to arrive tomorrow (7 March 2026) in Van, Turkey. The Consular Department and the Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara are preparing to welcome them and provide food while they await flights back to Thailand over the next two to three days. Starting tomorrow, the Embassy in Ankara will open a temporary operations center in Van to facilitate Thais evacuating from Iran and flying back to Thailand. Additionally, the Ambassador in Ankara advised Thais whose flights were canceled due to Istanbul Airport accommodating other airlines avoiding closed airspaces to contact their airlines for compensation while awaiting new flights. If new flights are significantly delayed beyond visa expiration, travelers are advised to consider canceling and purchasing new tickets that avoid countries with closed airspace. Saudi Arabia remains open in its airspace. Regarding the UAE, the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai are closely assisting stranded Thais.
