The People's Party announced its commitment to serve the public, to complete pending legislation, and to immediately push forward nine initial new bills as soon as the parliament convenes, seeking cooperation from all parties to promote "laws for change."
On 7 March 2026 GMT+7, the People's Party's Facebook page posted a statement saying the party is ready to work in parliament to immediately promote "laws for change."
The People's Party is ready to work in the House of Representatives to make it a place of hope for progressive change. Although investigations into allegations related to the 2026 election management must continue, since the Election Commission has certified the election results, leading to the parliament's imminent opening, the party is prepared to repay the public's trust by working fully to drive change through legislative mechanisms.
One highly important legislative mission the People's Party can begin immediately is to push bills aligned with the policies the party presented during the election campaign.
Initially, the legislation to be advanced will be divided into two main categories:
1. Bills to be newly proposed immediately upon the parliament's opening, initially consisting of nine sets.
Set 1: Creating an Economy for Everyone
• Transparent social security linked to the people (Social Security Act)
• Adjust the minimum wage calculation formula for fairness (Labor Protection Act)
• Enhance oversight mechanisms for foreign digital platforms (Digital Platform Economy Act)
• Ensure fairness for accommodation operators (Hotel Act)
Set 2: Anti-Corruption Measures
• Disclose government information transparently (Official Information Act)
• Strengthen budget oversight mechanisms (Budget Procedures Act / Parliamentary Budget Office Act)
Set 3: Decentralization
• Restructure Bangkok Metropolitan Administration for efficiency and closer public engagement (Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Act)
• Unlock local government authority over public services and revenue sharing (Decentralization Plan and Procedure Act / Local Government Establishment Act / State Administration Act)
• Promote simultaneous local elections (Local Election Act / Local Government Establishment Act)
Set 4: Sustainable Electricity Cost Reduction
• Liberalize the electricity trading market (Energy Business Act)
Set 5: Improve Quality of Life
• Implement mechanisms to upgrade tap water to be potable (National Waterworks Act)
• Unlock nationwide public transport (Land Transport Act)
Set 6: Environmental Protection
• Address and adapt to climate change (Climate Change Act)
• Systematic waste management (Waste Act)
Set 7: Education Reform
• Create meaningful and joyful education (National Education Act)
• Reduce teacher workload and ensure safe schools (Teacher and Educational Personnel Regulations Act)
Set 8: Protect Rights and Freedoms
• Counter Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (Anti-SLAPP) (Criminal Code / Criminal Procedure Code / Civil and Commercial Code / Civil Procedure Code)
• Protect the right to peaceful assembly (Public Assembly Act)
• End impunity (Criminal Code / Organic Act on Procedure for Political Office Holders / Military Court Code of Ethics Act)
Set 9: Political Reform
• Independent agencies accountable to the people (Draft constitutional amendments by article)
• Ensure transparent and verifiable elections (Organic Act on Election of MPs)
• Draft a new people's constitution (Draft constitutional amendment for creating a new constitution). It remains to be seen whether the Cabinet will confirm the People's Party's draft that has passed the first reading.
2. Pending laws from the previous parliament (already passed first reading) for which the party calls on the Cabinet to confirm continuation.
Currently, about 20 bills passed their principle approval (first reading) in the previous House of Representatives but remain in various parliamentary procedures, pending due to the dissolution of parliament at the end of 2025.
The People's Party urges the new Cabinet, to be formed soon, to exercise its constitutional power under Section 147 to pass a resolution confirming that these pending bills be allowed to proceed in the current parliament.
Examples of important bills the new Cabinet should endorse to continue:
• Clean Air Act: Introduce mechanisms to address PM2.5 dust problems (Senate under consideration)
• Bankruptcy Act: Allow citizens to submit business rehabilitation plans (Senate under consideration)
• Facilitation Act: Review outdated licenses and speed up processes (Senate returned to the House of Representatives)
• PRTR Act: Disclose pollution data in industrial areas (awaiting second reading)
• Labor Protection Act: Adjust working hours and leave days to international standards (awaiting second reading)
• Trade Competition Act: Prevent monopolies and market dominance (awaiting second reading)
• Military Court Code of Ethics Act: Establish equitable justice processes (in House committee)
The People's Party will exert full efforts to seek cooperation from other political parties in parliament and campaign to raise public understanding outside parliament to successfully pass these "laws for change" in the 27th House of Representatives.
On the morning of Monday, 9 March 2026 GMT+7, all People's Party MPs will report together at the parliament building to begin using the House of Representatives as a platform for creating change.
