Pheu Thai is in turmoil as northern MPs complain about missing out on ministerial quotas. They are angry that seat allocation ignores MPs and is decided by only a few senior party members. They plan to demand a quota review at the next party meeting, urging, "Please acknowledge us."
On 8 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters from Pheu Thai stated that after news broke of the party finalizing five ministerial seats without any northern constituency MPs receiving cabinet posts, strong dissatisfaction arose among MPs from the northern, lower northern, and upper central regions. In discussions, they agreed that the ministerial seat allocation did not consider MPs, with decisions made by only a few senior party figures. Notably, representatives from Nakhon Ratchasima were given two ministerial seats, while MPs from the northern, lower northern, and upper central regions, which have several MPs, received none. Since the party’s ministerial appointments aim to regain popular support, priority should be given to northern MPs to have representatives in the executive branch. At the upcoming Pheu Thai party meeting, a call will be made to review the ministerial quota allocation.
Reporters noted that some MPs went as far as saying, "We demand to be acknowledged, not just favoring insiders who have no accomplishments. Selection should be based on those who can work effectively, have experience, and collaborate with party MPs. It shouldn’t be a matter of pushing through preferred candidates arbitrarily. MPs should be consulted. There should be a fairer process rather than inconsistent, coercive actions that bind MPs’ hands. Right now, it feels like probing for personal gain, which is hard to tolerate."
