Peoples Party Escalates Fight, Plans Civil and Criminal Suits Against 3 Accounts Spreading Fake News to Defame the Party

The People's Party is stepping up its fight against fake and distorted news, preparing to take civil and criminal legal action against at least three accounts, including influential online thought leaders who intentionally create false news to defame and smear the party.

8 Mar 2026 GMT+7Fact CheckThe People's Party posted a statement outlining its enhanced systematic approach to countering fake and distorted news through communication measures and legal action. It noted that recently the party has faced continuous challenges from fake news, misinformation, distorted reports, and defamatory attacks that have damaged the party's reputation. Previously, the party tried to provide accurate information and warned offenders against repeating such acts, but many did not stop, indicating intentional efforts to create misunderstandings and unjust hatred toward the party based on falsehoods.

The party has listened to feedback and suggestions from the public regarding the impact and ways to address these issues. Going forward, the party will systematically elevate its approach to handle and combat fake and distorted news in two key dimensions.

1. Communication dimension: The party will establish an official team responsible for managing fake news to speed up clarifications and expand communication channels or platforms. It will broaden communication formats to reach a wider audience and create a system or website that allows the public to easily access clarifications on past fake or distorted news that have been repeatedly circulated.

2. Legal dimension: The party reserves the right to protect itself, particularly by pursuing civil and criminal actions against influential thought leaders or networks who intentionally accuse, defame, fabricate false information, distort facts, and repeatedly act systematically to harm the party and its personnel. However, these legal measures will be applied cautiously to avoid impacting the environment that supports freedom of expression, a fundamental right that must be protected in a democratic system.

Initially, the party has gathered evidence and will take legal action against at least three accounts that deliberately create fake news, fabricate false information, and defame the People's Party, including:

(1) An influential online thought leader who has continuously spread distorted news about the People's Party on Facebook.

(2) An X account that has consistently accused and defamed the party and its personnel over several years.

(3) A well-known political activist who has severely defamed the People's Party by publicly disseminating false information about disinformation operations that are untrue.

The party is in the process of collecting data and evidence on other cases to pursue legal action under the same standards in the future.
