Dr. Warong Excited to Enter Parliament After 12 Years, Vows to Serve as Opposition Even with One Seat

Dr. Warong admitted he was excited to enter parliament after 12 years. Although holding only one seat, he is ready to scrutinize the government but not to nitpick. He warned the government to govern honestly; if there is any sign of favoritism or corruption, they will face him—he even kissed and bit his parliamentary ID card to show to the media.

At 10 a.m. on 10 Mar 2026 GMT+7 at the parliament, Dr. Warong Dechkitvikrom, party-list MP and leader of the Thai Pakdee Party, spoke after registering with the Secretariat of the House of Representatives about his party being in opposition. He said that even though Thai Pakdee only secured one seat, joining the government might limit their effectiveness because of their small size. However, as opposition, they can use their unique voice to inform the public and protect national interests. He decided to serve as opposition, affirming a patriotic stance. They will support anything beneficial to the country but will not oppose over minor issues just to create events. Instead, they will focus on gathering evidence to investigate corruption or actions harming the public interest and the nation.

When asked if Bhumjaithai Party had approached him, Dr. Warong said there was no communication but noted that if he wanted to join, they would likely welcome him. He stated that he believes serving as opposition will better serve the country and the people, fulfilling the public’s expectations and his own after 12 years. Asked about his first action as opposition, he asked for patience, saying he would be fair and allow the prime minister to work fully first. But he warned that if there is evidence of corruption or misconduct, they will confront it decisively. He intends to work thoroughly without staging events, leaving outcomes to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) or the courts. If the government is honest, they won’t see his role much, but if not, they will face him in parliament.

Asked about his stance on voting for the House Speaker or Prime Minister, Dr. Warong said that as opposition, the approach is either to support opposition candidates or abstain. He will clarify this later but believes they should not vote to support the government except on crucial national matters, noting the prime minister can rely on him then. When asked about working with the People’s Party, he explained that opposition unity is not as tight as government cohesion; cooperation is loose with each party acting independently. He said opposition parties don’t need to hold hands like government parties. Regarding strength, he said he is confident in his role. Returning to parliament made him excited, and he showed his MP ID card, kissed it, and joked it felt like winning a world championship. When reporters teased that champions bite their cards, he bit his card accordingly.
