"Thai Sang Thai" proposes the "sharing burdens and benefits" approach to overcome the energy crisis, urging the government to reduce excise tax and pressure refineries to cut profits. The party points out that all parties must share the burden to keep pump prices fair.
On 10 March 2026, Mr. Patchari Nijsiriphat, Treasurer of the Thai Sang Thai Party, expressed his views on the oil price crisis and the public's cost of living burdens. He stated that in such volatile times, all sectors must collectively apply the "sharing burdens and benefits" measure to sustain the economy. The government should consider continuously lowering the excise tax on oil, a significant hidden cost, to directly ease consumers’ burden. Meanwhile, adjusting pump prices appropriately to reflect reality, alongside government controls, can help reduce excessive funding burdens on the fuel fund to maintain its long-term stability in facing the crisis.
Additionally, Mr. Patchari emphasized the role of oil refinery operators by proposing a review and partial reduction of refining fees and profit margins during the crisis. This would demonstrate social responsibility and help lower crude oil costs before reaching consumers. Balancing private sector profits with the public’s survival will alleviate pressure on other consumer goods prices, which tend to rise with energy costs. If all parties lower their profit ceilings and share risks together, it would be a fair solution preventing citizens from bearing excessive living costs that could undermine the grassroots economy.
The Thai Sang Thai Party treasurer concluded that these measures are key to collaborative efforts enabling Thailand to overcome the energy crisis. The government must firmly commit to managing the energy structure transparently and fairly for all. Appropriately reallocating burdens from the public to the government and energy capital groups will build confidence among investors and small businesses that they can continue operating without being undermined by excessively high fixed costs. Thai Sang Thai is ready to be a voice in promoting sustainable energy policies and reducing economic inequality so all Thai people can truly access energy at fair prices.
