The Foreign Minister acknowledged LGBTQ+ issues and revealed readiness to adjust passport titles to align with legal gender identity.
On 10 March 2026, Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke about assisting LGBTQ+ individuals facing travel difficulties abroad due to passport titles that do not match their current appearance and gender identity. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognizes the concerns and impacts experienced by LGBTQ+ people during immigration checks both domestically and internationally and affirmed that this issue can be understood and coordinated with relevant agencies.
"We are aware of this problem and can communicate with immigration authorities. We need to review the details of bureaucratic regulations to identify any obstacles, as Thailand has already recognized this matter," said Mr. Sihasak.
When asked about concerns that changing titles to match gender identity might affect international travel, the Foreign Minister clearly confirmed that when legal status changes, important documents must also be updated. If title changes according to gender identity are legally recognized, Thai passports must reflect consistent information. Those who have changed their status must apply for new passports to ensure their information is current and complies with legal requirements.
