The Interior Ministry secretary urgently instructed the governors of 76 provinces to closely monitor fuel sales in their areas to prevent hoarding or opportunistic behavior, while also preparing measures to handle the local energy situation.
At 1:00 p.m. on 10 March 2026 at the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Arsith Sampanrat, Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, revealed orders from Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The ministry was directed to urgently act following discussions on the energy situation affected by the conflict in the Middle East on 9 March 2026.
The Interior Ministry secretary added that to ensure proper management of the country’s fuel in line with current conditions, he has instructed the governors of all 76 provinces to implement three main measures:
1. Assign the provincial energy offices to coordinate with relevant agencies to quickly survey and compile data on private sector fuel demand by business type. They must create a database of fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) demand volumes, prioritizing essential businesses for immediate allocation, and promptly report this information to the Ministry of Energy.
2. Integrate energy situation data with provincial energy offices, provincial commerce offices, and related agencies to closely monitor fuel sales locally. They must supervise to prevent hoarding or opportunistic sales that negatively affect the public.
3. Prepare measures to manage the local energy situation by coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure continuous fuel management without disrupting economic activities or the livelihoods of the people.
"To instill confidence in the private business sector, a key driver of local economic activity, governors have been urged to prepare measures addressing the local energy situation. This ensures smooth and continuous management of fuel and petroleum, preventing disruptions to economic activities and daily life of the citizens. This is a critical mission for the Ministry of Interior as the leader and administrator of local government to closely implement according to the directives of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister, as well as relevant policy agencies," said the Interior Ministry secretary. The Interior Ministry secretary concluded.
