11 Mar 2026 GMT+7 Ms. Airin Panrit, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government expresses its congratulations to Bangkok for achieving first place as Asia's Best City for 2026 in the Readers’ Choice Awards 2026 announcement. The award results come from votes by readers of DestinAsian, a leading luxury travel and lifestyle magazine in the Asia-Pacific region. Among the top 10 best cities category, other cities ranked include Tokyo (Japan) at second place and Singapore at third.
Regarding the main reasons Bangkok secured first place, four outstanding features were highlighted. DestinAsian defined these as follows:
1. A perfect blend of contrasting charms, Bangkok is praised as a resilient and open city that combines a strong cultural heritage—such as beautiful temples and floating markets—with world-class modernity, including luxury malls and skyscrapers, in a remarkable way.
2. A paradise for world-class cuisine, Readers voted Bangkok as the most comprehensive food destination, renowned for its street food, which is famous worldwide as a heaven for street eats; fine dining, with growth in high-end restaurants and innovative young chefs offering progressive cuisine that creatively elevates familiar ingredients into unexpected experiences, gaining international recognition.
3. Diverse travel experiences, Bangkok offers choices that cater to all traveler types, featuring ultra-luxury hotels and award-winning boutique accommodations, a variety of lifestyles from modern art districts and historic neighborhoods to nightlife venues ranked among the best globally.
4. Hospitality and city spirit, with the atmosphere of the “City of Smiles,” which is fun and free-spirited, along with impressive service at all levels—from tuk-tuk drivers to five-star hotel staff—are key factors that have led readers from across Asia-Pacific to vote Bangkok number one for several consecutive years.
The deputy government spokesperson concluded by saying, “This ranking further confirms Thailand’s potential as a top tourism destination. Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, remains one of Asia’s most popular destinations, distinguished by its unique blend of ancient temples, bustling markets, and serene landscapes that offer visitors cinematic experiences. It also features remarkable historical sites like the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, beautifully complemented by vibrant street life, floating markets, and the lively Khao San Road.”
