Ramesh Defends Chuan: Never Said to Cancel Village Health Volunteers, Intent Was to Protect Their Honor, Not to Use Them for Election Campaigns

Ramesh clarified that Chuan never said he would cancel the Village Health Volunteers (VHVs). He pointed out that Chuan's intention was to protect the honor of the VHVs and prevent political factions from using them as tools for election campaigning. He declared that any government using the civil service as a political tool is no different from a government of thieves seizing power.

At 09:00 on 11 March 2026, Mr. Ramesh Rattanachewang, secretary to Mr. Chuan Leekpai, a party-list MP for the Democrat Party and former prime minister, addressed the issue concerning the Department of Provincial Administration and the President of the Village Health Volunteers Club of Thailand responding to Mr. Chuan's interview remarks about past election fraud. He asked that people review Mr. Chuan's entire statements, noting that he never mentioned canceling the VHVs. He said the allegations distort facts to mislead the public. Every statement was made in good faith to support and protect the VHVs and their honor. Chuan’s two letters to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health confirm his intent to protect the VHVs' honor and prevent political parties from using them as election campaign tools.

Mr. Ramesh stated that among the VHVs, there are honest individuals who do not want to cooperate with political factions employing unlawful methods, and political parties that do so are well aware. Regarding the Department of Provincial Administration's statement about village headmen and subdistrict chiefs, it said officials and staff under the department, including village headmen and subdistrict chiefs, are instructed to perform their duties honestly, fairly, and maintain political neutrality in all types of elections.

Mr. Ramesh said people should observe in practice whether neutrality, honesty, and fairness truly exist. Mr. Chuan has monitored this continuously and, before the election, sent letters to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior urging strict adherence to neutrality and fairness by officials at all levels, including central, regional, local areas, and local administrative organizations. All these actions stem from goodwill toward the country. The principle is that a good government will not use the civil service as a political tool. Any government that does so behaves like a government of thieves using corrupt means to seize power without regard for the country’s proper principles. Elections are not merely a process to gain power. All statements made by Mr. Chuan are motivated by goodwill for the nation. The absence of complaints is not a proper answer; asking the public will provide the most truthful and accurate response, confirming that what Mr. Chuan said is true.
