Education Minister Approves Homeschooling for 7 Families and Greenlights Two Private High School Learning Centers to Expand Options for Bangkok Children

Education Minister Narumon approved homeschooling for seven families and authorized the establishment of two private high school learning centers, each accommodating up to 50 students, to broaden educational options for children in Bangkok.

At 09:00 on 11 March 2026 GMT+7, Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Education, chaired the first meeting of the Bangkok Provincial Education Commission for 2026 at the Rajavallop Conference Room, Ministry of Education. The meeting was attended by Mr. Suthep Kaengsantia, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education; Mr. Pichet Phophakdee, Secretary-General of the Basic Education Commission; and other commission members.

Prof. Dr. Narumon stated that the meeting approved homeschooling for seven families starting semester 2 of the 2025 academic year. Four families fall under the jurisdiction of the Bangkok Primary Education Service Area Office, and three families under Bangkok Secondary Education Service Area Office 2.

Additionally, the meeting acknowledged authorization for two learning centers to provide basic education. Westminster International Academic Co., Ltd. was approved to operate the "Westminster Bangkok" learning center offering non-formal education for grades 10-12, with enrollment capped at 50 students. The Maitreejit Foundation for Islamic Education and Development was also authorized to operate the "Maitreejit Moral Building Towards a Peaceful Society" center for grades 10-12, with a maximum of 50 students for the 2026 academic year.

Prof. Dr. Narumon added that the meeting reviewed several other matters, including reports on expert appointments to the Strategic Management Subcommittee filling vacancies; the cancellation of homeschooling by four families under the Bangkok Primary Education Service Area due to their children enrolling in formal schools; the placement of three students into schools under the Department of Learning Promotion; and the 2026 student admission results. The Bangkok Primary and Secondary Education Service Areas 1 and 2 have revised their practices for announcing exam results and waiting lists, notifying all affiliated schools accordingly.
