The Prime Minister quashes rumors of an energy crisis, confirming that Thailand sources oil globally and can confidently handle the Middle East situation.
On 11 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul detailed Thailand's energy preparedness amid escalating Middle East conflicts. He stated the government assures national oil supply security, with the Ministry of Energy maintaining a network of partners and alliances across multiple global regions. This strategy diversifies risk, avoiding reliance on any single import source.
The Prime Minister noted that although global concern is rising after Iran announced the placement of naval mines near the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world's key oil transit routes—Thailand's management system, supported by diverse international partners, gives the government confidence it can maintain energy stability continuously and minimize economic and public impact.
"Oil procurement is a primary mission of the Ministry of Energy. We have a strong import management system with multiple trading partners. This diversified sourcing mechanism is key to reducing risk from global market volatility. Even if main transport routes face issues, we have contingency plans and alternative channels to preserve the country's energy security," Anutin said.
The government emphasized it is closely monitoring the rising tensions 24 hours a day to assess effects on crude oil costs and supplies. The priority remains maintaining domestic energy stability to avoid increasing living costs for the public during this global crisis.
