Abhisit acknowledged the tax evasion and criminal case involving Kritichai, MP for Trang's 3rd district, but said he was unaware of details. He emphasized the need to cooperate with authorities and follow the law, dismissing speculation about a by-election.
At 1:00 p.m. on 11 March 2026 at the Democrat Party headquarters, Abhisit Vejjajiva, party leader, addressed the summons issued by the Economic Crime Division for Kritichai Pak-itchon, Democrat MP for Trang's 3rd district, to face allegations of evading 7.4 million baht in taxes. He said the police will call Kritichai on 16 March, and Kritichai has assured him of cooperation. Abhisit said the matter should be handled based on facts and law. He understands it involves a family business issue from about ten years ago but stressed everything must comply with legal procedures and that cooperation with authorities has been instructed. Regarding any impact on the party, Abhisit said he did not know details but that the MP would respond to the summons and that they would learn more at that time.
Regarding Satit Wongnongtoei, deputy party leader, who clarified it was a civil case while police insist it is criminal, Abhisit said he knew there were tax-related issues and likely criminal aspects as well. However, everything must proceed according to the law, and Kritichai is cooperating with authorities.
When asked if he was worried this might escalate and lead to a by-election, especially given the party's opposition status, Abhisit said he had not considered that far. He urged focus on the facts and legal process and said he did not know whether the matter was being politicized.
