Songkhla MPs from Bhumjaithai Party have united to submit a letter to the Finance Minister supporting low-interest loan measures and compensation funds to help recovery after the floods in Hat Yai and Songkhla.
On 11 March 2026, Mr. Sanphet Boonyamani, Member of Parliament for Songkhla Province, along with Mr. Somyot Playduang, MP for Songkhla's 3rd district, Mr. Anukul Pruksanusak, MP for the 6th district, and Mr. Natthanon Srikorkua, MP for the 7th district, all from the Bhumjaithai Party, revealed they had received complaints from residents and business operators in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, regarding the impacts of the major flood event in late November 2025, which caused significant damage to homes, properties, and local economic activities.
Residents and business operators expressed concerns about the progress of government aid and compensation measures, especially financial initiatives to help businesses recover and resume operations. They pointed out that most government assistance has focused on compensating affected individuals, while support for business recovery remains limited.
Consequently, the Songkhla MPs from Bhumjaithai proposed the government consider low-interest loan support, or Soft Loans, through state financial institutions to assist businesses impacted by the flood. They suggested increasing the loan limit from the existing 1 million baht per applicant to up to 40 million baht per applicant to better match the actual damage levels in the area.
They also proposed easing loan access conditions by allowing private organizations or associations, of which the business operators are members, to endorse at least two applicants to support loan approval, especially in cases where applicants have credit histories that might hinder access to funding.
Regarding loan terms, they proposed a maximum loan amount of 40 million baht per applicant, with interest waived for the first six months, followed by a fixed interest rate of 1.5 percent per year from month six through the fifth year of the loan contract, to reduce financial burdens and support ongoing business recovery.
Additionally, they urged the government to expedite compensation and repair assistance payments to affected residents and to consider extending the assessment period for local administrative organizations still surveying damages, ensuring comprehensive aid coverage and preventing any affected individuals from being excluded from government support measures.
Mr. Sanphet added that the private sector in Songkhla is preparing to hold meetings to compile proposals and solutions to present to the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. He affirmed his readiness to coordinate and forward local proposals to the government.
