The Pheu Thai Party held a meeting of its executive committee to discuss names for deputy speaker and minister positions to submit to the Bhumjaithai Party. They denied that the name "Phatthana Sapso" was rejected, clarifying this is untrue because no names have been submitted yet. They stated appointments will be based on legal criteria, not popularity or favoritism.
At 10:00 a.m. on 12 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters from the Pheu Thai Party reported that the party held a meeting of its executive committee to consider names of party members for political appointments. Party leader Julpan Amornwiwat and other executive members attended the meeting. Later, at 1:00 p.m., the party will bring the list of proposed appointees to discuss with the Bhumjaithai Party.
Before the meeting, Julpan said the gathering follows procedures to assign individuals to undertake the selection of candidates for political positions. When asked how many positions would be selected, he said this would need further discussion with the main coalition party. Regarding whether this includes the deputy speaker position or the eight ministerial posts allocated to Pheu Thai, he said no confirmation has been made on the number or positions yet. This is only an initial framework step for the party to delegate decision-making authority, part of the process; the final decisions will rest with those assigned.
Asked if the list submitted to the coalition leader party will include more names than the quota to allow further consideration, Julpan replied that ultimately the list must match the number of positions, following procedures, with nothing confirmed yet. Regarding rumors that Pheu Thai had submitted the name of Phatthana Sapso, an MP from Sakon Nakhon, as the second deputy speaker but it was rejected by Bhumjaithai, he said this is untrue as no names have been submitted at all. When asked who Pheu Thai MPs have proposed for the second deputy speaker position, Julpan said many names have been mentioned but urged people not to speculate or name anyone yet, since only one person will be chosen. He added that those mentioned who are not selected may be harmed by speculation, but in reality, the party has many capable members ready to serve. He asked for time to carefully consider all options.
Regarding earlier rumors that Bhumjaithai questioned some of Pheu Thai’s proposed names, Julpan said this matter needs further discussion but assured all decisions will follow legal requirements. Personnel appointed must go through steps and procedures in accordance with the constitution and relevant laws, which must be followed. If there are no legal obstacles, it would not be possible to claim someone is liked or disliked. When asked about the criteria used for allocating positions, he said no decisions have been made yet. Pheu Thai insists on selecting capable individuals who can work effectively and meet the needs of the people and country. He confirmed that this afternoon he will meet with Bhumjaithai Party to discuss further.
