Senators Support Government Energy-Saving Measures Amid Middle East Crisis, Ban Overseas Work Trips, Order Civil Servants to Work from Home

Senators support the government's energy-saving measures in response to the Middle East war crisis, ordering a ban on overseas work trips and requiring civil servants to work from home.

On 12 March 2026, reporters at the parliament reported that during the Senate Whip Committee meeting on 11 March, chaired by Mr. Mongkol Surasajja, Chairman of the Senate and head of the Whip Committee, the agenda for the Senate session on 16-17 March was set. A key item was the urgent consideration to establish an ordinary committee to investigate the background, conduct, and ethics of individuals nominated as Senate-appointed expert members to the Parliamentary Officials Committee (POC), replacing two vacant positions.

At the same time, the situation of the conflict in the Middle East and its impacts on Thailand were discussed. It was agreed to follow the Cabinet's resolution on urgent measures to address the effects of the situation. The committee requested cooperation from subcommittees to switch to online meetings to reduce travel to the parliament building, and to cancel or postpone bilateral meetings and foreign visits during this period. Staff of the Senate Secretariat were advised to consider working from home as necessary and appropriate.
