Navy Releases Timeline Confirming Multiple Warnings to Shipping Companies Ahead of Iran Incident

The Navy released a timeline confirming multiple advance warnings to shipping companies after Iran’s escalation, issuing letters advising avoidance of the Strait of Hormuz and providing a sailing manual to tighten safety controls.

On 12 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Navy spokesperson Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiphan spoke about the case of the Thai-flagged bulk cargo ship “Mayuree Naree,” approximately 30,000 tons deadweight, owned by Precious Shipping Public Company Limited. The vessel was attacked while sailing in the Strait of Hormuz after departing from Khalifa port, United Arab Emirates, on 11 Mar. Rescue efforts saved 20 crew members, but 3 remain onboard. Earlier reports noted that the Navy had assessed risks and continuously issued navigation warnings for the Strait of Hormuz area, providing accurate, up-to-date information to Thailand’s maritime sector to support safe voyage planning, as follows.

24 Feb 2026 GMT+7 The Naval Operations Department issued the first warning letter to the Thai Shipowners’ Association and ship-owning companies regarding the high-level tensions between the United States and Iran. Operators were advised to acknowledge the situation and consider implementing recommended maritime safety measures.

On 2 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the Naval Operations Department released a second warning noting that the Strait of Hormuz had been closed by Iran’s IRGC forces. It recommended avoiding transit through the strait and outlined preliminary safety measures for navigating this high-risk area.

On 6 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the Navy convened a meeting with government agencies, private sector representatives, and shipowners in the War Room at Naval Headquarters to establish safety protocols for Thai cargo ships in the High Risk Area (HRA). This meeting resulted in the creation of official Sailing Instructions.

From 7 Mar 2026 GMT+7 to present, the Navy’s Operations Center, through the Maritime Traffic Control Center, has served as the main Point of Contact (POC) for monitoring Thai vessels entering or operating in the high-risk Strait of Hormuz area. The center collects reports from ships and shipping companies, plots and tracks vessel positions, and provides daily situation updates to relevant agencies.

On 10 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the Naval Operations Department officially published the Sailing Instructions along with a QR code for vessel data reporting and a procedural manual for coordinating and controlling commercial ships. This guidance enables shipping companies to strictly enforce safety measures on their vessels under their responsibility.
