Navy Monitors Crisis of MV Mayurinarie, Urgently Coordinates with Oman to Assist 3 Stranded Crew Members

The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy directly contacted the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Navy of Oman to assist three Thai crew members stranded on the MV Mayurinarie, and ordered heightened monitoring of three other foreign vessels employing Thai workers.

On 12 March 2026, Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiphan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, provided an update on the MV Mayurinarie attack in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the Navy is awaiting news from the Omani Navy on their efforts to rescue the three remaining Thai crew stranded on board. Meanwhile, arrangements are underway to repatriate the other 23 crew members who had evacuated earlier.

Regarding the rescue of the remaining three crew, the Royal Thai Navy Commander reached out directly to the Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman, a close ally, to request immediate assistance. However, he acknowledged significant risks in the area, requiring officials to carefully assess the situation before attempting a rescue operation.

Initial reports indicate that the MV Mayurinarie sustained damage to its stern and is drifting uncontrolled with the current. Due to the emergency evacuation, it is unclear whether the anchor was dropped. The vessel’s position may have shifted slightly but remains within the Strait of Hormuz. The Navy’s Maritime Traffic Control Center (MTCC) is closely monitoring the situation 24 hours a day.

The Navy spokesperson added that surveillance has been expanded beyond Thai-flagged vessels to include foreign ships flying other flags but employing Thai crew members, aiming to ensure their safety.

Latest system checks reveal three such vessels remain stranded in the risk area, anchored within the territorial waters of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. The Navy had issued warnings and advised avoiding these routes since 24 February due to escalating tensions in the Middle East.
