Surasak, Deputy Leader of Bhumjaithai Party, Supports Splitting Sports Ministry, Believes It Will Enhance Sports Development

Surasak Phanjaroenworakul, Deputy Leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, agrees with the idea of separating the Sports Ministry, believing it will make sports development clearer. He said the ministerial lineup is not yet finalized and is awaiting the vote on Anutin becoming Prime Minister first.

At 13:10 on 12 March 2026 at the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters, Surasak Phanjaroenworakul, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and Deputy Leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, commented on the plan to merge the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture, leaving only the Sports Ministry separate. He said he agrees with separating the ministries because culture and tourism are closely related, with many historical sites serving as tourist attractions. If the Sports Ministry stands alone, sports development should become clearer.

When asked if this would make the ministry smaller, Surasak said he believes efficiency is more important than size. A large ministry without capability is less effective than a smaller, capable ministry that can focus properly on its work. When asked if he had been approached by senior party figures, Surasak said no final decisions have been made yet because, as party leader Anutin Charnvirakul stated, they are waiting for the Prime Minister vote before deciding the cabinet members. Asked if he personally has a sports background, Surasak joked that he usually plays checkers and rubber jumping, then added he was joking and that he currently oversees the Ayutthaya United football club.
