Over 5 Months, Government Blocks More Than 437,000 Illegal URLs, Mostly Online Gambling Sites

The government has proceeded to block more than 437,000 illegal URLs over five months, with online gambling sites comprising the majority at over 362,000 URLs. The government stresses its serious commitment to preventing and suppressing online crime.


13 Mar 2026 GMT+7 Ms. Lalida Perntiwattana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) is advancing efforts to enhance measures for preventing and combating online crime. They have continuously blocked illegal URLs on social media, pages, and websites according to the government's policy to resolve security and social threats.

According to data from operations in fiscal year 2026, between 1 October 2025 and 28 February 2026, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has blocked a total of 437,473 illegal URLs. Notably, in February 2026 alone, they managed to block as many as 132,842 URLs.

The category of websites blocked the most was

  • online gambling sites, totaling 362,482 URLs.
  • E-cigarette sites accounted for 41,850 URLs.
  • Alcohol advertisement sites numbered 13,734 URLs.
  • Sites involved in cannabis trading totaled 4,841 URLs.
  • Firearms-related sites accounted for 3,797 URLs.
  • Prostitution-related sites numbered 2,148 URLs.
  • Others included misinformation, scams, lèse-majesté, hate speech, and pornographic content, totaling 8,621 URLs.

The Deputy Government Spokesperson added that the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology from a project to detect and analyze illegal activities on websites and social media, to assist in screening and analyzing data before submitting to the WebD system to expedite the blocking of illegal websites.

Additionally, the ministry has developed the “Suspend” system to quickly send court orders to internet service providers (ISPs), along with the “URL Checker” system to continuously monitor blocking efforts, enabling the blocking of over 362,000 websites and platforms related to online gambling.

“The government is seriously committed to preventing and suppressing online crime, especially online gambling websites, which are sources of social problems and scams. We continue to develop technology and monitoring systems to improve the efficiency of blocking illegal websites continuously.”
