At 13:30 on 13 March 2026 GMT+7, Deputy Prime Minister Sophon Sarum paid respects to the sacred objects at the Government House: the Brahma statue, the replica Narasingha statue atop the Thai Khu Fah building, and the spirit shrines of the Grandfather and Grandmother spirits. He told reporters that he prayed for everyone’s happiness and prosperity, and for the country’s safety.
Afterward, Sophon took photos in front of the Thai Khu Fah building as well as with his team and the Government House press corps before revealing that he had visited the parliament, paid respects, and come to say farewell. Today marks his departure from the Deputy Prime Minister position. In our local expression, it’s a 'beautiful ending.' Why a beautiful ending? Because he has fulfilled his ideals, particularly regarding drug policy—holding integrated drug budget meetings and delivering on drug-related commitments.
He also told related agencies that he will eventually be part of the legislative branch regardless. Whether as parliamentary speaker or member of parliament, if he becomes speaker, he will drive forward continued drug control efforts. The agencies under his supervision are pleased because the drug problem solutions initiated so far will continue under the 'Unified Power of Faith' project to resolve drug issues comprehensively and successfully. Thus, he considers this a beautiful ending and takes pride in doing what he loves.
