Peoples Party Decides to Nominate Natthapong for Prime Minister, Emphasizes Need to Show Vision to the Public

The People's Party has resolved to nominate Natthapong to run for the prime minister position, emphasizing the need for the public to see his vision. The party has not disclosed the name of the candidate for the Speaker of the House yet and urges people not to criticize the opposition's lack of unity prematurely, asking to judge their performance first. They also affirm they will conduct strict oversight.

Today (13 Mar 2026) at 14:00 at the Future Forward building, Ms. Phakamon Nun-anun, deputy spokesperson of the People's Party, announced preliminary results of the party meeting. She stated the meeting resolved to nominate a candidate for the Speaker of the House but kept the name confidential. The party also nominated Mr. Natthapong Ruangpanyawut for prime minister to reaffirm the opposition's position as the leading party. Before voting for the Speaker and the prime minister, candidates will present their visions to allow the public to compare their suitability and the benefits each would bring to these important positions.

Regarding criticism about the opposition coalition's unity possibly affecting their ability to scrutinize the government, Ms. Phakamon confirmed that the People's Party is prepared to conduct thorough and rigorous oversight as before, without leniency toward any side. She explained that the opposition coalition operates differently from the government coalition because it is a grouping of parties not involved in governing. Therefore, their unity has a unique form specific to the opposition. Addressing concerns that a weak opposition might allow Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's government to serve for 4–8 years, the deputy spokesperson urged the public to wait and observe the party's performance and role before making judgments, as such speculation is premature.

Regarding coordination with other opposition parties to vote in alignment, the People's Party deputy spokesperson explained that once the party finalizes details, the opposition whips will take responsibility for proceeding. The appointment of the opposition whip leader must wait until the opposition leader is officially appointed. He requested patience for official results and discouraged premature assumptions. He reaffirmed that the People's Party is ready to disclose all matters transparently to the public.
