Khun Ying Sudarat Urges Government to Turn War Crisis into Reform Opportunity, Propel Thailand as Global Food Bank

Khun Ying Sudarat urges the government to use the war crisis as a chance for major national structural reforms, highlighting the "Food Bank" strategy to establish Thailand as the world's kitchen to handle volatility.

On 13 March 2026, Khun Ying Sudarat Keyuraphan provided guidance on managing the country amid the severe war crisis and volatile global energy prices, stating the government should seize this opportunity to turn crisis into opportunity through reforming three key structures to support sustainable growth.

Regarding the three structural reforms, Khun Ying Sudarat said energy must unlock solar and EV development since Thailand faces the highest oil and LNG prices in ASEAN. She proposed accelerating support for renewable energy, especially allowing citizens and the private sector to freely install rooftop solar to generate electricity for their own use and sell surplus back to the grid, as well as supporting electric vehicles to reduce dependence on imported energy.

Revamping logistics to emphasize rail and water transport: the government must swiftly improve freight transport systems focusing on rail and waterways to reduce rising transportation costs due to higher oil prices. Existing infrastructure should be used to maximize efficiency, enhancing Thai businesses' competitiveness. She also declared a position for a "Food Bank," noting Thailand's strong potential and urging the government to promote Thailand as the world’s "Food Bank" to supply quality agricultural and food products to global markets amid worldwide food shortages.
