Sihasak Expects 20 Crew Members to Arrive in Thailand Next Week, Plans to Coordinate with Iran for Temporary Ceasefire

Sihasak expects 20 crew members to arrive in Thailand next week, stressing that assistance for the remaining three must come solely from the Omani Navy due to constant clashes in the waters. Plans are underway to coordinate with Iran to request a temporary halt to attacks.

On 13 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, Minister of Foreign Affairs, gave an update on the assistance provided to Thai crew members aboard a cargo ship. "Mayuree Naree" He said 20 crew members have already been rescued by the Omani Navy and are currently in Kazab city. They must travel to Abu Dhabi to obtain visas, then continue to Muscat to catch a flight back to Thailand. They are expected to arrive in Thailand next week. Meanwhile, the Omani Navy is still assisting the other three crew members. This is difficult as the ship is at sea in an area of conflict with ongoing attacks, posing high risks. Authorities are assessing when conditions will allow rescue efforts for the remaining three crew members.

Mr. Sihasak emphasized that assistance for the three crew members must rely on the Omani Navy first, since the cargo ship is in Omani waters. Oman had initially declared that no one else should enter due to the danger. Yesterday, he spoke with Oman's Foreign Minister, thanked him for the help, and received assurances that they would check on the three crew members out of concern. Therefore, they must rely mainly on the Omani Navy as they operate in their territory.

Mr. Sihasak also revealed there is no new information regarding the three crew members, such as any signals or messages requesting help. Coordination with Oman continues closely to monitor any updates.

Regarding the proposal to use jet skis in the search, Mr. Sihasak stressed that Oman is prioritizing this but the situation remains risky. They may need to ask Iran to allow Omani rescue teams to enter by requesting a temporary ceasefire during that period. However, this may be difficult as Iran must also maintain its own positions.

Mr. Sihasak also addressed requests for assistance from the families of the three crew members, saying there have been no new requests. The focus remains on speeding up the search and rescue efforts, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai Navy coordinating intensively.
