Prompong Praises Government for Stabilizing Oil Prices, Promoting Energy Conservation, and Boosting Thai Agricultural Exports Globally

Prompong praises the government for taking the right approach by stabilizing oil prices, promoting energy conservation, pushing Thai agricultural products into global markets to address food crisis risks, and positioning Thailand as a safe destination ready to welcome tourists worldwide.

14 Mar 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Prompong Noparit, former spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party, commented on the energy tensions in the Middle East due to conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, saying the government’s efforts to stabilize oil and energy prices, alongside campaigns encouraging public and private sectors to conserve energy—such as promoting work-from-home policies and instructing government agencies to avoid unnecessary overseas travel—are appropriate and timely amid ongoing global energy uncertainties.

He added that maintaining energy price stability as long as possible helps reduce living cost impacts for the public, especially in transportation, manufacturing, and consumer goods sectors. Rising energy costs inevitably increase production and service costs. He urged the government to closely monitor the situation and enforce measures to prevent opportunistic price hikes that exploit consumers.

Prompong further noted that Thailand still heavily depends on imported energy, including oil and natural gas. Therefore, global volatility inevitably affects the economy and citizens' living costs. However, every crisis presents opportunities.

“The global energy crisis could become an opportunity for Thailand if we seriously promote our agricultural products and food raw materials to the world market.”

He then revealed that if global tensions persist, many countries may face food security pressures. Thailand’s strength in agriculture, with widely recognized products and raw food materials internationally, means the concept of “Thai Kitchen to the World” should be earnestly advanced. This would enable Thai farmers' agricultural products to expand exports, not only increasing farmers’ incomes but also generating significant revenue for the national economy.

Regarding tourism, Prompong said that although many countries may currently slow travel due to global circumstances, Thailand should prepare its tourism sector systematically once the situation improves. This includes promoting natural attractions, culture, and services to accommodate tourists worldwide. Thailand is not directly involved in conflicts, which is a key advantage. This helps project an image of Thailand as a safe, friendly country ready to welcome tourists and investors globally when global conditions ease.
